This Performance Pavilion was part of my final project in the Design Studio during my time studying abroad in Rome, Italy. The studio was split into two main terms, the second term was independent work, furthering our first term partnered project by choosing a concept design and developing it. The Performance Pavilion is a modern take on the traditional Italian piazza, complete with a sunken amphitheater, an enclosed auditorium, studio rehearsal spaces, a photovoltaic roof to generate energy, and an accessible green roof for the public.
The first term of this studio was focused on a collaborative Urban Design Master Plan proposal for the International Art Urbain Competition. Urban Inversion starts at Basilica di San Giovanni and flows along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II through the city of Rome ending at Chiesa del Gesu, and its purpose is to bring power and safety back to pedestrians, and reconnect commercial amenities, transit nodes, and piazzas to enhance the quality of community life. Within our transit corridors, we propose to capture rainwater and redistribute it for irrigation of street vegetation, to add ecological infrastructure that has never before existed in Rome.
