This advanced studio researched and designed a mobile platform to host arts workshops, performances and conversations within Northwest Arkansas communities. We worked in collaboration with local artists, community members, and staff from Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, to design a Mobile Community Art Lab for the museum’s CB to You! community engagement program whose mission is to “energize the power of community through art.” CB to You brings artists directly into communities around the region for multi-day happenings that feature artmaking demonstrations, music and dance performances, and storytelling and conversations. These events form a vital component of the museums mission to increase access and availability of the arts within the region and to support local artists working within the community. After extensive research and multiple design iterations, the studio’s final design proposal for the upfit of a Ford Transit cargo van features integrated storage, furniture, and transformable exterior panels to provide an infrastructure and backdrop for art-making events and community workshops. The design will be realized over the next year so that the van can hit the road for the 2023 summer season of CB to You!
